Jaguar names 19 showrooms for a brand that registered eight cars this year

Jaguar will sell its electric cars from 19 UK sites run by 12 dealer groups, down from 83 in 2023, after eight registrations in the first nine months of 2026.

Jaguar has named the 19 UK sites that will sell its new electric cars, run by 12 dealer groups, from a flagship in Knightsbridge to single showrooms in Cardiff, Belfast and Edinburgh. The list is the endpoint of a retreat that has taken the brand from 83 dealerships to 19, and it lands in a year when Jaguar has registered eight cars in Britain.

The registrations come from SMMT's by-brand table for the first nine months of 2026. Jaguar's total was eight, against 1,725 in the same period of 2025, a fall of 99.5 per cent.

The 19 addresses

Lithia UK has the largest share with five sites: Derby, Chester, Tonbridge, Wolverhampton and the Knightsbridge flagship that opened in October. Sytner takes Bristol, Northampton and south-west London, and Marshall has Cambridge and Oxford.

The remaining nine are single locations. Brighton goes to Southeast Motors, Belfast to Lookers, north-west London to Group 1, Southampton to Hendy, Edinburgh to John Clark's Pentland dealership, Leeds to Vertu, Newcastle to Lloyd, Manchester to Williams and Cardiff to Sinclair.

Nine of the 19 sit in London and southern England. Rawdon Glover, Jaguar's global managing director, has said the UK needs no more than 20 sales points, and in October the company was still saying that 17 dealerships would operate at relaunch. The final list has settled at 19.

Eight cars in nine months

Jaguar's UK volume has been close to zero since the old range ran out. New car sales in Britain ended in November 2024, according to Jaguar's own ownership guidance, which now points buyers towards approved used cars instead. The 1,725 registrations in the first nine months of 2025 were the last of that stock being processed. This year's eight are what remained.

Set against the market, the numbers are stark. Britain registered 1,739,271 new cars in the first nine months, up 10.2 per cent, and Jaguar's share rounded to 0.00 per cent. September's record month did nothing for the brand: the same table shows no Jaguars registered that month.

The comparison is less alarming than the raw percentage suggests. A brand between model lines will register almost nothing, so the figure measures the length of the gap rather than the demand for the car that ends it. It is still the baseline the Type 01 has to beat.

What the showrooms are being asked to sell

The car is the Type 01, a four-door electric grand tourer with a published price from £130,000. JLR's launch release says orders open in early 2027 and production begins at Solihull that year, with electric drive units and battery packs from Wolverhampton and pressed body panels from Halewood. Glover has said the full order system follows early in 2027 and first deliveries are expected around the middle of the year, the Independent reported.

A £130,000 Jaguar is a different retail proposition from the fleet-focused saloons of the 2010s. Glover has described the retailer role as concierge-level care, including collection and delivery for owners who are not close to a site. The Knightsbridge store is built for commissioning consultations rather than rows of stock cars, and Automotive Management's report on the opening describes a gallery-style space with a cafe, art and cultural events.

The arithmetic of a smaller network

Car Dealer counted 83 Jaguar dealerships in the UK in 2022, and reported in March 2023 that the plan was to cut the network to fewer than 20. Nineteen is 64 fewer sites, a reduction of 77 per cent.

The volume maths explains the direction. Jaguar's UK registrations peaked at almost 35,000 in 2016, according to Automotive Management. Spread across 19 sites, that volume would be 1,842 cars a year per showroom. A network selling 1,000 cars a year would average 53 each, and at £130,000 a car that is £130 million of revenue at list prices before options. The new Jaguar is being built to earn more from each sale, not to fill forecourts.

That has consequences beyond the showroom count. A smaller network carries lower fixed costs for the manufacturer and its partners, and it asks more of each customer in travel. Jaguar's answer is that buyers at this price expect the car to come to them, which is why collection and delivery sit inside the retail offer rather than outside it.

What happens to existing owners

The 19 sites are sales destinations, not the whole service network. Jaguar says current dealerships and authorised repairers, most of them at Land Rover sites that previously sold Jaguars, will keep providing servicing, repairs, warranty support and software updates. Approved used sales continue through the wider network as well.

That matters for the owners of the cars registered before the hiatus. A town that has lost its Jaguar showroom may still have a Land Rover site authorised to look after the car, and the warranty and software position does not change with the retail list.

What to watch

SMMT publishes October's registrations on 5 November, the next date in its calendar. It will say little about demand, because there is almost nothing to register. The first real test comes in 2027, when the Type 01 reaches customers and 19 showrooms have to sell a car at £130,000.

Two things will decide whether the network was sized correctly. The first is whether the Type 01's order book converts into deliveries. The second is whether the rest of the range arrives on schedule. The Type 01 is one of three models planned on that architecture, and when the Independent asked whether that was still the plan, Glover said: "We're taking it step by step." Until those cars exist, eight registrations are the only hard measure of the brand's UK presence, and 19 showrooms are a large bet on a small number of buyers.
